The Benefit of Being Used
This has been a blessed week. God showed me multiple opportunities to do something to help someone with a need and every time my heart was filled with joy. In one particular instance, I had a co-worker send me message asking for $20 for lunch and gas to get her through the rest of the week. I asked her if $20 was enough (it didn't sound like it to me). She went on to explain that she didn't have much food at home and she was struggling. I was then reminded of the radio ad that runs, explaining that 1 in 8 people don't have enough food to eat. I gave her what I thought would be sufficient, above the $20 she requested. I dropped the money off at her desk and with the understanding that I didn't want the money back. She wasn't aware of how much was in the envelope. I went to lunch. When I returned, I had a message from her, saying how thankful she was and how God answered her prayer though me.
I don't know what she specifically prayed for. But what I learned is that there are many people around us struggling. Some who know Christ and some who don't. Many people pray and ask God for things. But sometimes the only way they "see" God is thorough the actions of others. They may not go to church. They may not read the Bible. They may not have a close relationship with the Lord. But what they have is a need. And at some moment in time, they request help from God. We may be the only testimony of God that people see. Our actions may be the only proof that they acknowledge as being true demonstration that God is real. We never know how being obedient to the urging of the Holy Spirit impacts someone's life.
